Description
With neighboring homes razed around him, a last resident of Lujiazui is seen in the upstairs window of his partially demolished house in 1999. The man had refused to move until he was compensated more fairly for his property. Later on, this would become the site of some of the tallest buildings globally - the Shanghai Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center. The Jinmao Tower can be seen in the background.
