Fushimi Inari is one of the most iconic sights in Kyoto, Japan and serves the Shinto deity of fertility and industry. It is estimated that about 10,000 torii gates have been donated as a sign of gratitude for answered prayers by people successful in business. All of these torii wind their way up the mountain to the main shrine building at the top. Traditionally, the torii gates represent a transition from the mundane to the sacred in the Shinto religion. My composition, “Dream Gates”, represents a transition from the mundane into fantasy. 10,000 gates Lead into the night Shadows of color Compete with the light Pathway unknown Before me awaits Walking through all the 10,000 Dream Gates
