Description

The Half Moon Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest moon in the solar system. Approximately 385,000km from Earth it's presence stabilises our planet's climate and is responsible for the tides. This is a mosaic of several stacked images taken via the "lucky imaging" process to give greater sharpness avoiding the worst atmospheric wobbling. This involves shooting video of the target in order to capture frames with increased sharpness when the atmosphere is still. The "still" frames from the video are then combined giving the most sharpness on all features of the Moon's surface. This enables resolution on the craters which is very difficult using conventional single image processing, as can be seen along the wonderful contrast of the terminator line, where the dark side meets the light, showing shadows cast by the craters and mountains.
