Description

The "flow" of the tide is the term used when the waves rush into the shoreline and cover the sand and rocks in its path. This can be a calming scene like the one captured here with smaller waves, or a more tumultuous one when the sets are larger and breaking with a stronger force. This image was created on a fairly calm day at Crystal Cove State Park in Southern California and shot with a longer exposure of two seconds to capture the true flow and movement of the whitewash around the rocks at sunset. By using this technique, I was able to pick up more color in the water reflected from the sun and sky. It was a unique evening as smoke from nearby wildfires gave a more intense orange to the sun, along with the blues and lavenders of the sunsets. It provided for a beautiful array of colors I don't usually witness in one image.
