Hate shares a border with many high-emotions; envy, grief, love. The walls between these high emotions are low and haunted. If ghosts and demons are real, this is surely where they live and they live to encourage treacherous emotions to spill into each other. Learning to tame my heart was learning to tame these demons. I fell in love with Michael Kiwanuka’s song “Love & Hate” quickly after discovering his music. It seeded an idea that took nearly two years to bloom into an artwork. On Valentines Day, while creating with @thisisme.ally, the three elements of this piece fell together smoothly and spontaneously. The music, the story, the visual. I created this piece to separate the four aspects of emotion. The heart exists amidst the other three. Thoughts are traced along a Fibonacci line and abstractions or breaks occur along it. At the same time, the boundary between two emotional plains frays above nape of the model’s neck.
