There’s something vivid about shooting at midnight in -30C that keep the details burned into your memory. The echoed crunch of micro spikes bouncing off frozen canyon walls, the breath on the inside of a neck warmer, the glistening of ice under headlamp light. Every sense is heightened, and time seems to slow. I recently returned to Jasper National Park in late February six years after visiting for the first time at age 19, revisiting the exact spot I saw on my first day all those years ago- and igniting strong feelings of nostalgia from my first experiences in the Canadian Rockies. Shooting within the chasm of the canyon that evening felt like coming full circle, a new kind of deja vu. I realized how much time had passed, and how much I had grown as a person and photographer since I last held a camera in that place- and that this was only the beginning of what was to come now that I had found home in the Rockies.
