This photo happened when light, imagination and opportunity aligned beautifully and effortlessly. My friends and I were living in Hampi, India, for a few months and this UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its majestic rock formations, serpentine rivers, lakes, paddy fields, coconut trees, and ancient temples that are older than time. Its lush flora is home to leopards, bears, monkeys, snakes, crocs, birds and occasionally, you’ll spot humans, too. We decided to ditch resorts and camp under giant boulders and an open sky. These boulders, displaying a delicate balancing act, were right behind our camp and I loved how the sun shone through the gaps at certain times in the day. It gave me the inspiration for this frame. I asked my most skilled rock climber friend to climb this giant, that too, in a lungi, because I wanted the photo to showcase authentic rural life in South India. My friend scaled the rock, the sun bathed the landscape in gold and my camera captured the magic.
