But lying in wait only a few paces away, precariously balanced among the branches of the jungle canopy, a creature listened closely. She lowered her head toward the boy slowly, like an angler baiting a fish, and stretched a razor-lined mouth around his body. One crushing snap of those jaws would cleave the boy in half easily; the hard work was already done. But before she could enjoy her supper, something knocked her off balance.
