Chief's Log: Sunrise upon my final tour. No matter the focus or the far reaches of my aided eyes, I cannot see beyond the gloaming of this day. Course steerage was my focus, and for so many decades I stood as both lookout and navigator at the conn of the my life. Only now, my course ends where the waves run aground to a thundering applause, in a place where ships have no place at all. What torturous thing have I done to myself, staring with longing into the landlubber's horizon? Insomuch that I now run myself aground! Why have I wished for the shore when the sea is my lover? My brightest navigational star now blinds me and in an instant, I realize that it is not the horizon that remains unclear, but instead, the eyes of the man who views it.
