Santa Monica, 1909 At dusk on the Pier's opening day, Rex Neptune, the mighty king of the sea, climbed onto the deck declaring to destroy the brand new pier. Queen Santa Monica halted the great king by pointing out that this pier was made of concrete - impossible for even him to destroy. Rex Neptune inspected the stone-like deck, admitted his defeat and dove off the pier in a blaze of flames.
