An abandoned patient room in Pripyat Hospital No.126, Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, Ukraine. The mostly intact windows shed light on a scene symbolic of the untimely fate of so many first responder victims. This room, like the rest of the city, was hastily left in the immediate aftermath of the worst nuclear energy accident in history. Places and things abandoned are a statement of society’s tendency to move forward, to gravitate towards the new and shiny while leaving much of the old behind. They exhibit an inherent beauty that is mostly overlooked, relics of the past that are left to the elements and time to be reclaimed by nature.
