Description
The Rocky Fire burns off Morgan Valley Rd July, 2015. This was a “spot” fire, or separate part of the blaze started from the main body of fire. Wind, embers, and topography dictate where and how big spot fires are, but by dusk it was it’s own behemoth, at nearly 1,000 acres. Hot temperatures, extreme drought, and local canyon winds all added to the spread. A full moon behind the smoke and flame turned the hues of dusk from purple to blood orange and red, permeating the atmosphere with acrid smoke and a pallor of hellish hues that added a surreal feeling to already jaw-dropping fire behavior. I do not exaggerate when I say jaw dropping, I literally stood there with my broken camera staring at the scene while the time exposure was firing. It was a moment in the Terra Flamma project and my climate photography career forever etched into memory, and a sign of things to come. 7360x4912 pixels
