Description

An abandoned car burned at the Rocky Fire in Lake County, July 2015. The pyrocumulus, or column of smoke from the active wildfire creating it’s own weather, burned over this rural property that also had a camper trailer on site. While the car was certainly abandoned, the entire property was still destroyed by the blaze. The image title comes from both the car being busted, and the fact that I destroyed $5,000 worth of camera gear shortly before making this picture. A hive of displaced honeybees lost their tree, and were attacking anything yellow, including my dirty nomex fire gear. After I got attacked by the swarm and stung on the wrist, I reflexively dropped my camera and ran. Returning to the camera, the Nikon D810 lens mount was bent, and the 24-70 zoom lens was also damaged. The camera was out of action for two weeks and cost $800 to repair. 6854x4810 pixels
