Description
Burned Joshua Trees form the foreground during the second night of the Erskine Fire near Kernville and Lake Isabella, CA. This was a destructive and deadly fire that exhibited extreme fire behavior in the high desert and lower mountain elevations. In the sky is an Air Attack aircraft flying over the fire. The fire is on a steep hillside ripping up through vegetation, showing how quickly and aggressively the flames can spread when conditions are aligned. Fire burns faster uphill and this image became the cover for my 2018 photography monograph book "Terra Flamma: Wildfires at Night" 7360 × 4912 pixels
