Description

This is sunset at Playa Negra in Guanacaste and one of the three 4x5’s in the collection. Revisiting the contact sheets from 2003, I appreciated the beauty of the large format more with the perspective of an additional 20 years. It’s rare to see or capture a lavender sky and ocean and I treasure that I have this one from Costa Rica. I would have been shooting on a tripod with a cable release, but since it was dusk, you see the smooth movement of the waves from the long exposure. This was probably shot at 1/15th or 1/30th of a second. Looking at the negative when I went to get it scanned recently, I appreciated the black rocks that are the namesake of this spot, piercing the water.
