Inspired by Marie-Guillemine Benoist’s "Portrait of Madeleine" (formerly known as Portrait of a Negress). I stand, representing more than just myself, but the Selves of black bodies who had little to no influence on how they were seen and represented in the world and in the Arts from the 1700s to modern day. With this portrait I reclaim the narrative of my black female body.
