April 29th was one of my best chase days in Kansas. We started off in Central Kansas and tracked one of the most stunning storms. Close to sunset the cold front started to surge catching the storm. We decided to leave it for storms producing tornados down south. The cold front was forming a line of storms at sunset and one of the most stunning scenes unfolded. Right at sunset this mean shelf cloud lit up in some wild colors. There was dust and smoke on the horizon putting off this eerie orange/yellow glow. I have seen many shelf clouds, but this was one of the best the structure was amazing. This mean line was producing many tornadic spin ups as it raced towards us. We quickly stopped for some photos and then raced down south trying to stay ahead of the line.
