Description

The Icamiabas Women Warriors had no husband and did not let men near their tabas (houses). They handled the bow and arrow with great precision and had the moon as their protector. Many Amazonian legends stir the collective imagination and are passed down through generations. One of these legends tells the story of the Icamiabas, indigenous warriors also known as Amazonas. It is not known to what extent the story of the Icamiabas is mixed with fiction, being shaped by legends and the Eurocentric vision of the indigenous peoples. The story has its origin in the Greek legend of the Amazons and it was due to them that they named the state of Amazonas and the Amazon jungle.
