The Senso-ji is probably the best-known temple in Tokyo. It is famous for its gates with those oversized lanterns and the long snack street connecting them. For all kinds of occasions (religious originated or not), the Tokyoites get themselves in their best kimonos and visit the temple for good fortune and, of course, a series of selfies and group photos. The Hatsumode is marking the first visit of the year, Setsubun is to celebrate the coming of spring, Hana Matsuri is the celebration of Buddha’s Birthday, and the Sanja Matsuri is held in celebration of the three founders of the temple, to name a few. The younger folks celebrate their 20th birthdays (coming of age) and graduations or pray for finding a boy/girlfriend.
