As much as I love the chaos and randomness that nature can provide, there is a level of comfort I get from discovering a moment of symmetry when peering thorough the lens. In this scene, there is a juxtaposition of the steadfast fishing pier against the ever-changing patterns of Jupiter-esque beach sand, waves and shifting clouds in the sky. In the midst of these multiple fronts of activity around the pier, I realized that I AM the pier - after having to transform my emotional self into that of being... immovable, and hopefully resistant to erosion. Although my wife has been battling breast cancer for 14 years, we refuse, as parents, to let the chaos of treatments, surgeries, radiation and side effects alter our capability to show our daughter how to discover and appreciate the beauty of nature. Especially at the beach.
